A review of the Swift Compact C404 Motorhome Hire View Our Motorhomes Compact, Light, Easy to drive. Also, where did we go? We decided it was time to take out one of our new motorhome hire vehicles to give it a good run and stay in it for a couple of nights to get a good feel on how things work and how it feels.  We coupled this with a few walks and some good food. Where did we go… Well, we started the journey out from Luna Motorhome Hire and head to the peak district.  This is one of my favourite places as its relatively close and easy to get to.  The roads can be quite tight but as long as you take it easy, you won’t meet a lorry in the same lane as you! Having searched Facebook there is a group that gives you information on free stop overs at pubs as long as you eat in their restaurant.  Of course, this is a very popular choice so when you find one, best to get it booked.  There are so many to scroll through and find.  I chose a pub called the Greyhound Inn based in Warslow which is not too far from Buxton.  The reviews on this pub seemed great so I thought, lets give it a go. We arrived at the Greyhound Inn around 6pm.  Our table was booked at 7 so we set up, got ourselves together and head into the pub for our first of 2 nights booked there.  We were not disappointed and to be honest, the food and drink was very reasonably priced.  The car park had 2 other motorhomes on site that night and it appears they are allowed a maximum of 3 overnight so definitely worth booking ahead. The next day, I opened up our walking app and followed a route I had pre-planned.  A good 10 miles later we were back at the pub for another night of food and drink. The walk started from Warslow and head out through various villages in the area.  The scenery is just fantastic and to be honest even if we did not have the app, I would say there is plenty of exploring to do without having a strict route. Swift Compact C404 Motorhome Hire Ok, so I am a particular fan of the smaller motorhomes myself.  As much as I do like the big ones for space and movement, the smaller ones for me personally I feel are more suited to my preferences, so we are on for a good start. The C404 has 4 belted seats, so for a family of 4.  In the middle of the motorhome you have the habitation door entrance, the kitchen area which boasts a small under counter fridge freezer, a hob and oven with grill and a microwave.  As much as I like the mircowave, I do think it would be better if they made this as storage, however it does come in handy. Opposite the kitchen is a wet room and W/C.  Its a typical swift bathroom with a shower head used as a tap to wash your hands and pull it up to use as a shower.  I would say this is slightly smaller than the usual size of something in like a 6 berth motorhome however still offers enough space for a wash down with some hot water from the on board combi boiler. The bathroom has a blue splash back which I do like as it just adds a bit of colour to what would be a bit of a boring part of the motorhome. At the rear of the motorhome there is a small U lounge which doubles up as a double bed and a drop down double electric bed.  We slept on that bed and it is quite comfortable.  I would recommend pulling out the guards from under the bed as it was quite uncomfortable when I realised I was laying on a metal pole under the mattress.  Once I had done, I slept like a baby.  Although this bed looks small, its bigger than you think once you are on it. Storage in this motorhome, being quite compact is limited.  There are 4 cupboard and a wardrobe for clothing and you can store some other things under the U lounge on one side.  The kitchen cupboard area can hold quite a bit of food and the fridge is ok for storage too. The motorhome is based on a Fiat Ducato and the model we took out was a manual gearbox.  I felt this motorhome was super easy to drive and I feel first time motorhomers would have no problem jumping into this. All in all, I think this is a fantastic little motorhome for long weekends and longer breaks.  I would take this into Europe for a longer journey for example, especially as a couple.  This would also be a great motorhome to take around the NC500 for example as its small nimble like ability to run around those roads would suit them very well. If you are looking to swim, this beach is a great option as there are lifeguards present between the months of April and September. If you have a dog, it will not be allowed on the Central beach, but there are dog-friendly beach options slightly further up past the piers. Holkham One of the most picturesque beaches in Norfolk is Holkham beach – around four miles of glistening white sand that run along the side of the forest. It is recommended that you check the tide times when you are intending to visit, as attending when the tide is out will give you more space to explore. The area is a nature reserve where you will find some of the most beautiful views, but the location is pretty isolated – with few options for food so it is best to bring your own. Sheringham Beach Sheringham beach is the best of both worlds – during high tide there is a rocky, pebble beach perfect for walks along the coastline. At low tide, however, the sea moves to reveal a beautiful sandy oasis where you can bathe in the sun, build sandcastles with your family and paddle in the ocean. This lesser-known beach is never as busy as some of the bigger resorts in the area, but the town does include a number of amenities including restaurants, pubs, shops and cafés. Lining the beach are quaint beach huts that you can hire – we suggest spending the day there, eating some of the region’s famous fish and chips and taking in the beautiful Norfolk coastline. Hunstanton Last, but not least on our list is Hunstanton beach, which is another popular resort. Perfect for all the family, you can find fresh seafood, smooth ice cream and donkey rides to entertain you throughout the day. There is a fairground and amusement centre, as well as a local Sealife Centre that is also worth a visit if you have the time. What to think about before using a campervan for the first time Where ever you decide to stay, its best to get to grips with the motorhome before you decide to pitch up somewhere.  Make sure you are aware on how to use all the systems on board.  The fridge, heating and hot water and how to maintain them whilst you are out and about.  Do you have a handy user guide?  If you hire a campervan, you should receive a run down on the basics. Where can you camp in a campervan You can stay on campsites, aires and other places recommended by guides and other motorhomers.  If you are thinking of ‘wild camping’ you will need to check the local laws before doing so.  Wild camping in the UK is still illegal unless it clearly states that you can. Join a club To start at the more expensive and exclusive type of motorhome and campervan holiday, you could join the Caravan and Motorhome Club.  Membership starts at £56 for the year.  This will give you access to an abundance of sites.  You will also have to pay for those sites when you stay but at a discounted rate.  You will also receive a number of other benefits such as savings on ferry crossings, news letters, club forum for information and expert advice.  You will also be assured that these sites are checked to be up to a certain standard. Each site would advertise themselves on a 3rd party site and you can read up on reviews of the campsite you would potentially like to stay at, see where they are on a map and book in the confidence knowing that the 3rd party will do all the hard work for you. The great thing about this method is choice.  Lots of it. Catch the ferry at Plymouth and land at Roscoff, where you can drive down the West coast from. Where to visit Around 4 hours South of the ferry stop, past the city of Nantes is the beautiful town of Sables-d’Olonne. This beautiful seaside town on the Atlantic Coast is truly worth a visit. Slightly outside of the main town centre is the Camping La Dune des Sables campsite (address detailed below), which offers affordable motorhome hook-ups and is a great base when exploring the region. The campsite is open from mid-April to mid-September. The town itself is famous for its yachting, so be sure to check out the harbour and Port Olona, home of the famous Vendee Globe yacht race. The seafront of the town is full of cafés and restaurants where you can enjoy some fresh seafood, and then explore the town centre – visiting the world’s narrowest street known as the ‘Rue des Halles’ – or street of hell. Less than three hours away is the town of St Yrieix Sur Charente, where you can find the Camping du Plan diEau campsite, which is perfectly located near a beautiful lake and a swimming pool – perfect for taking a dip in the warmer summer months. Compared to other campsites in France, this one is extremely affordable and is in a great location with impressive facilities. On site, there is a pizza restaurant where you can grab a bite to eat, or you can wander into the town centre where you will find some nice restaurants with delicious food. The final stop in our guide is Brantome, which is only an hour’s drive from St Yrieix Sur Charente. Set on the edge of the Dordogne region, this town has kept its authenticity without falling into the traditional tourist traps. Be sure to visit Brantome Abbey, which was built by Charlamagne over 1000 years ago and the abbey church to see its stunning architecture. If you can visit on a Friday as this is when the weekly market is in town where you can find some vibrant and delicious food and goods. If you fancy getting out your sea legs, why not hire a canoe and sail it down the river, taking in the beautiful surroundings. Whether the sun is splitting the sky, or we have the traditional British weather, there are some great campsite options with tons of amenities for you to try. Let’s take a look at some of our favourites: Rosemarkie Camping & Caravanning Club Site, Scotland If you are looking to venture up to the North of Scotland, be sure to visit Rosemarkie Club located on the stunning Moray Firth. The campsite is perfectly sandwiched between the sea and the beautiful Scottish woodlands. The campsite has a number of good facilities – from showers and toilets and electric hook-up grass pitches. A short walk down the coast will take you to a beautiful RSPB nature reserve where you can find flowing waterfalls, quiet woodland and wildlife. If you are looking to go further afield, there is a bus stop not too far from the camp entrance. Walk one way and you will find Chanonry Point lighthouse – which is a great place for spotting the wild dolphins that frequently visit the location. The other way you will find the town of Fortrose which has a number of different cafes and restaurants and a harbour. The perfect location for a quiet Scottish getaway. Crows Nest Caravan Park, North Yorkshire Another great location to head for when travelling in your motorhome is Yorkshire. Yorkshire has some stunning coastline with a number of famous seaside towns such as Scarborough. One of the best campsites in the region is Crows Nest Caravan Park, which is located five miles outside Scarborough. Even closer, however, is the town of Filey – a picturesque Victorian town with quaint cafes and a lovely beach. Scarborough is easily accessible via the bus stop located just outside the park, meaning you can go out for dinner or see a show in the popular seaside town before heading back to the park. The park itself has a number of amenities including electric and water hook up. There is a laundry room, showers, shop, bar and pool on the site, as well as a play park for the kids and a dog park for your canine friends. Channel View Caravan Park, Somerset Some of the best coastlines in the UK are located in the South of England – and Somerset is no exception. The region has a number of different campsites, but one of our favourites is the Channel View Caravan Park in Brean. This campsite offers pitches right at the beach with brilliant views and a number of amenities. The site has both toilets and showers and is dog-friendly. In order to secure one of the prestigious beach side plots, you will need to pay for a premium slot, which is worth the additional cash. Nearby is the Brean strip which is packed full of restaurants, cafes, bars and entertainment to keep you amused in the evenings. To get here, you will need to drive or take public transport. A short walk away from the site, however, there is a shop and pub for you to grab a drink or a quick bite to eat.
