Book motorhome hire and travel to Cornwall

Book motorhome hire and travel to Cornwall What better way to see Cornwall than to travel there in one of our gorgeous motorhomes.  Cornwall boasts amazing coast line, fabulous beaches, amazing campsites and fantastic scenery throughout and is always a favorite of our customers. Here you can visit the 15 Poldark film locations starting on Bodmin Moor as you head down to some of the beautiful locations throughout Cornwall. There are plenty of family experiences such as the Eden Project in St Austell.  The Eden project is roughly the size of 30 football pitches and houses a huge array of plants from around the world. We think its the only place in the UK that you can feel as if you are in a tropical paradise. Other places you could visit in your motorhome hire Cornwall would be the Pradise Park in Hayle.  This wildlife sanctuary has tropical birds, red pandas, farm animals as well an indoor Jungle play barn for the children to play. For both the parents and the children, why not visit Tingtagel Castle.  Its a truly amazing day out for all with unbelievable views and a fantastic place to learn a little about British history with the castle having links to one of a great King, King Arthur. Food! We all know how great the food offerings are in Cornwall.  I mean who doesn’t know about the great Cornish Pasty, but in Padstow, there is a great little fish and chip shop called Rick Stein’s Fish and Chips.  What a place to enjoy a fabulous cod and chips looking out over the harbour at Padstow. We totally recommend a trip here. For those who like a tipple or two (obviously for consumption when you have parked up) why not visit the Camel Valley Vineyard.  The award winning Vineyard in Bodmin produces fabulous red, white and sparkling wines and tours take place between April and September. You can also purchase wine by the glass or bottle as you see fit! To book motorhome hire check out our full website for more information.

Motorhome Road Trips – An alternative to air travel

Beat the airports We all know that everyone loves a holiday, and most people just want to get on that plane and head off to a sunny destination where they can sit by a pool and chill out in the sun.  But, the feeling of getting there just isn’t the same.  For the last 10 months we have been told to stay apart, not be outside our bubble, wear a face mask.  Its likely that if you are looking to fly somewhere in the near future even after the vaccination has been distributed that places like aircraft/airports will still want you to wear a mask and let’s be honest, you will probably want to any way. Well, Luna Motorhome Hire has the perfect solution for you,  With many of the destinations around the world being completely blocked off to travellers a lot more people this year chose to go on a road trip and explore closer to home.  A road trip is of course the perfect way to explore, have a holiday and be safe and healthy in the comfort of your own vehicle.  There are many reasons as to why you should chose a staycation and go on a road trip, but here are just a few. Create your own itinerary Wherever you live, there are bound to be lots of places nearby which its very likely you have been to.  But have you been to places that are four or five hours away? Road trips are so flexible. So much so that you can stay in one place more than one night if you want, especially if you are wild camping.  You can even research local travel blogs for areas you may be interested in or wing it, which is much more fun. Supporting local businesses By staying in your home country, you will support lots of local businesses.  You will be surprised at what you may find.  A great local pub or a cafe in the middle of nowhere. Its possible there will be shops that sell those one off items you would never find anywhere else.  Or even find a new holiday destination on your way that you may want to revisit. Photo by Tatiana from Pexels Start your new hobby You could start cycling as part of your holiday, rock climbing, walking, photography or anything that takes to your liking.  Exploring your home country can bring out the best in you. No busy airports How stressful is getting to the airport?  Not only that, how stressful is the return flight home?  None of that in a road trip in a motorhome.  Pick and chose the times you want to travel. Why not drive into Europe We will cover this in details in a future blog, however Motorhome holidays could be the way to your sunny destination.  Customers booking motorhome holidays travel to various parts of Europe.  Whether it be to France, Amsterdam, Spain or Portugal, the journey itself can be so much fun.  You can find some beautiful places, beaches, quiet spots and campsites which can be some of the best in the world.  Research your journey and research the places you want to visit. You will require a green card for travelling into Europe from the 1st of January 2021 which should be provided by your insurer.

Can I go on holiday when lockdown ends – Covid 19

The PM Boris Johnson has stated that the lockdown will end on the 2nd of December 2020 and in its place will be a new tier system. Those who are looking to get away , this is great news as the government states that local and international travel restrictions will be lifted. The only downside to this is that if you are in Tier 3, you won’t  be allowed to and the government is still advising people not to travel in an ideal world. Some of the key factors for staycations and going abroad are mentioned below….. FCDO Advice – If you book a holiday abroad and the government advises against travel to a destination you have booked, your insurance will become invalid and your holiday must be cancelled. You must also consider whether you will need to self isolate upon your return from these countries.  The FCDO travel advice list will inform you of this The country you are going to may also have entry requirements, so make sure you double check before you book anything.   Can I go on a staycation? This will depend on which tier you are in, for example, Tier 3 states you should have overnight stays anywhere and accommodation providers will need to close in those areas. So below we are going to set out the travel advice tiers below; Tier 1 – You can go on holiday! The government does still advise to keep travel to a minimum and certainly avoid higher risk areas.  A motorhome hire holiday would be perfect for this! Tier 2 – Overnight stays in other Tier 2 areas are allowed but there are social distancing rules in place.  You should try to avoid travel but holidays will be allowed Tier 3 – Unfortunately you are in the highest tier and you should self isolate.  People can not travel into a Tier 3 area either.  If you are hiring a motorhome, please bear this in mind.

Rent Out My Motorhome

Looking to rent out your motorhome but not sure where to start? Part 2 This week is part 2 of whether you would like to rent out your motorhome or whether you would like to start a motorhome hire business. Last week we looked at the models and a little bit of information on how to go about planning and getting to your first hire. Firstly, lets look at insuring your motorhome.  I use a company called Alan Boswell which seems to be quite well known within the industry for providing motorhome insurance cover, breakdown cover with the RAC and legal cover which I would absolutely recommend. Motorhome hire insurance is not cheap, you can look at anything upto and beyond £1500 per vehicle as well as the extras. But you are insuring it against all incidents that may occur. We will come to forms and terms and conditions a little later which will help cover you against anything that may go wrong. Next thing to look at is storage. Where will you keep your motorhome, how will you rent it out, will there be a number of motorhomes in your fleet, what is access like, what’s the security like.  All these things are of great consideration.  If you are running it from home, is this viable, what will your neighbours think, how will you ensure the safety of your motorhomes if they are parked on a driveway, do you really want customers coming to your home address? When I initially started renting motorhomes I based myself on a farm with land that I rented from the owner.  There was an agreed structure of what was included such as electric and water as well as a specific space.  The farm was slightly secure but I wouldn’t say it was secure enough.  After they had a theft from there I moved to a secure location with perimeter alarms and 24 hour CCTV coverage and a locked gated entry. Advertising So, you have organised your premises and your motorhome has arrived what next? Well lets look at advertising. There are a number of platforms that you can use to rent out your vehicle. Lots of them offer varying rates of commission or up front fees etc..  They also all have their own terms and conditions which I absolutely recommend you read up on. Over the years (as well as our own website and own forms of advertising such as Facebook and Instagram) I used a number of companies such as Goboony, Leisure Rentals, Camplify, Campanda and a few others. I will not sit here and advise on which ones to use but lets just say some of the terms and conditions on some of them have forced me to delete my listings with them. The best form of advertising is your own.  This is a competitive market but also a niche one. There are companies with 100+ motorhomes for rent and there are some with just a few.  Each one of us has to put the same effort into advertising as the other as you will spend time and money on doing so. Personally, I stick to our own website as well as 2 third party suppliers which seems to do enough for us. Building your website and social media platforms are essential in showing that you are a professional outfit.  People do like a family run company or someone with a one motorhome they can rent from as they could feel that its more personal.  However if something goes wrong, the bigger companies may be able to deal with it easier. Depending on how you proceed with your motorhome hire my personal opinion is this. Get advice on advertising if you haven’t been there and done it before. Ask questions, look for other people in the industry that may be willing to help you start up and give advice.  And if all that fails, email me. I may be able to help! Learning how to build your own website and manage your own social media will cut costs immensely, however its time consuming, so be prepared! Terms and conditions and hire forms So, you have now mastered your brand and where you are going to advertise. Whats next? Lets look at the final part of this part 2 of my blog for this week. Terms and Conditions and protecting yourself Terms and conditions on any hire are there to protect you and your £35,000+ investment. They have to be absolutely solid. Why? Well insurance is likely to cover you for all eventualities however keep claiming on that insurance and you will soon find yourself in a position where you can’t pay it anymore or they just wont insure you anymore. How would I proceed here? Well I looked at other peoples terms and conditions of hire. I saw how they worded the hire and I used it to create my own. This was not an overnight task and although I recommend looking at other peoples terms, don’t just copy them outright as it may not stand up if you had to take someone to court. Think about the worst case scenario and plan for it.  I will write about some of my experiences in another part of our blog. What other forms will you need to be signed. I would suggest having a front sheet for all your hires. This will include customer details, out and return dates, fuel levels, gas levels, agreed time to return your motorhome and signature. Finally, I suggest you have the all important outgoing forms and incoming forms. Try to find a template which can be available to purchase or even make one yourself. Just ensure you have all the correct information on there. Now that you have your forms, terms and conditions, advertising and storage sorted, its now time to think about what is next.  We will cover this in part 3 next week. This concludes part 2 of renting out a motorhome.  Luna

Rent out my motorhome

Looking to rent out your motorhome but not sure where to start? Let’s talk about renting out your motorhome.  Firstly, why are you looking to rent it out? Is it to cover the costs of owning a motorhome or is it to dabble in the hire market to see if it could be a business opportunity?  Maybe its an investment that you are looking to get a return on. All of those reasons are valid and if you are thinking about it, what process should you go through to start hiring out your motorhome. In a series of blog articles I am going to talk about renting out your motorhome in various ways and what the benefits are against the risks of doing so as ways to protect yourself and your motorhome if you are looking to hire out. So, in part 1 (this week) we are going to talk about the first steps to renting out a motorhome. Choosing the right motorhome If you are looking to hire out a motorhome you have a couple of choices.  Firstly, if you want a motorhome for yourself, but to cover the costs of it you would like to rent it out get the motorhome that is for you. Whether it be a 2 or 6 berth motorhome, make sure you are buying the motorhome that is for you to enjoy and not your potential customers. If you are looking to purchase a motorhome simply to earn some extra money as well as enjoying a few weekends a year in it, then why not chose one that would be suitable for small families, maybe a 6 berth motorhome so that you can cater for couples or families.  The more people that your motorhome sleeps, the wider the range of customer you will be able to offer your motorhome to.  Consider the layout.  Some people will prefer a fixed rear bed, yet some people prefer a bed to be over the cab which allows for more living space. Having been in the rental market for a few years I have seen what rentals sell well.  Motorhomes with rear bunk beds work well with families.  I can also vouch for a 6 berth motorhome that has a rear lounge where your overhead cab bed is in situ and the lounge is the perfect place for your customers to chill out during the day and make up the bed at night.  This works well for families but also families with people who aren’t able to make the climb up to the overhead bed. Another major thing to consider about the motorhome is the age and the make.  Again if you are buying for you, then go for what ever you feel fits your needs.  Personally I prefer the Autotrail models as the quality is good, they are made in the UK and its very likely they will be around for some time to come.  I also prefer newer model vehicles and the design and décor really has come a long way from the old flower printed seat coverings. If you are looking to buy specifically for hire, it may be worth looking at a year old or 2 year old second hand model initially, just to keep the costs down to start with but if you can afford to buy new, then I would recommend it.  Sometimes within 4 years parts for these vehicles can find their way out of the market and before you know it, you are scraping around for parts you can’t get hold of, or the design has changed so much that the fridge you have is suddenly out of date so a replacement (if it stopped working altogether) could mean a kitchen rebuild around your fridge. I have to say, I have not had this problem, but it could happen. So, in short. When choosing your motorhome, consider Is it for you or is it specifically for hire? Age and make of the vehicle, will parts be easy to come buy One last thing to consider.  If you rent out your motorhome, remember.  People using it will not respect it in the same way you do.  You will get dents, marks, breakages, damage and sometimes damage that would scare the pants off you to make you want to give it up almost instantly.  You will have to detach yourself from the love of the motorhome and accept that it has become a tool.  Your heart will sink when you get your first knock, and it will happen. This concludes part 1 of renting out a motorhome.  Luna Motorhome Hire provides a rental programme for motorhomes owners to rent out their motorhome to may money on.  The company also offers a fantastic motorhome investment programme with a 10% return on your investment.
