Savour the Journey: Culinary Delights on Your Campervan Adventure View Our Motorhomes Eat, Drink and be merry I don’t know about you but when embarking on a campervan holiday is not just about the destinations you visit, but also about the culinary journey you experience along the way. As you explore the UK’s stunning landscapes, you’ll find an abundance of delicious food options that can make your journey even more memorable. Here’s how to make the most of your meals on the road, with a focus on local produce, seasonal freshness, and dining out. Embrace Local Flavors One of the joys of traveling by campervan is the opportunity to sample local delicacies from the regions you visit. The UK is a treasure trove of locally produced foods, each area offering its unique flavours and specialties. From the creamy cheeses of the West Country to the fresh seafood of the Scottish coast, there’s something to tantalize every palate. Visiting local farmers’ markets is a fantastic way to discover these regional delights. As you meander through the stalls, you’ll find everything from artisanal breads and handcrafted cheeses to fresh fruits and vegetables. Not only does this support local farmers and producers, but it also ensures that you’re getting the freshest ingredients for your meals on the go. Celebrate Seasonal Freshness Cooking with seasonal ingredients is not only a treat for your taste buds but also a more sustainable way to enjoy food. As you travel, take note of what’s in season and incorporate these ingredients into your meals. Spring brings a bounty of asparagus and tender lamb, while summer is perfect for ripe berries and fresh salads. Autumn offers hearty root vegetables and game, while winter is ideal for warming stews and soups. Preparing meals in your on board campervan kitchen can be a delightful experience. Imagine whipping up a fresh salad with just-picked greens or grilling some locally caught fish. With a little creativity, you can create simple yet delicious meals that highlight the best of what each season has to offer.  If you are looking for some inspiration on cooking in you rmotorhome or campervan then why not visit the Motorhome Matt Podcast who has a range of great ideas.  We picked an episode out for you to take a look at HERE. Dining Out: A Taste of Local Culture While cooking in your campervan can be fun, dining out is an excellent way to immerse yourself in the local culture and cuisine. The UK boasts a diverse array of dining options, from charming country pubs to Michelin-starred restaurants. Each offers a unique experience and a chance to try regional specialties prepared by skilled chefs. When planning your route, consider stopping at some of the UK’s renowned food destinations. Perhaps indulge in a traditional Cornish pasty in Cornwall or savour haggis in a cosy Scottish inn. For a truly memorable experience, treat yourself to a meal at a restaurant that champions local and seasonal produce.  Don’t forget, you can stop at pubs whilst on your journey.  There are many that will let you stay overnight if you eat at their pub.  Be sure to book in advance.  Most of these pubs can be found online on searchforsites.co.uk. Tips for Culinary Adventures on the Road Plan Ahead: Before setting off, research local markets, farm shops, and eateries along your route. This will help you make the most of your culinary journey. Stock Up: Keep your campervan cupboards well-stocked with essentials like olive oil, herbs, and spices. This way, you can easily prepare meals with the fresh ingredients you find. Be Adventurous: Don’t be afraid to try new foods or recipes. The joy of travel lies in discovery, and that includes discovering new flavours and dishes. Enjoy the Experience: Whether you’re cooking in your campervan or dining out, take the time to savour each meal. Enjoy the process of cooking, the flavours of the food, and the company of those you’re traveling with. In conclusion, a campervan holiday offers a unique opportunity to explore the UK’s culinary landscape. Motorhome Safety

Motorhome Safety View Our Motorhomes Our top tips for motorhome, road and weather safety As an experienced motorhomer myself and the owner of Luna Motorhome Hire, I thought we should take advantage of recommending a number of tips and tricks to avoid any problems or injury when enjoying your motorhome or campervan hire break. Vehicle Safety Basic vehicle safety is a must when driving a vehicle as large as a motorhome.  Of course you should check tyre pressures, tyre wear, ensure you have enough fuel for your journey, especially if you are visiting areas where fuel stations may be scarce.  Check all your fluids before going on a long journey, washer fluid, power steering and coolant. Before setting off, it is important to make sure all of your locker doors, garage doors, windows and skylights.  When driving along these parts have a habit of flying away if not closed properly. Habitation Safety Motorhomes and campervans have what we call the ‘habitation area’.  Generally the area you live, cook, shower and so on.   Being aware of the basics can help you have a wonderful break without any problems.  It is essential you are make aware of gas safety.  In your home, your gas supply is never really seen until you push a button on your boiler or start cooking on your gas hob.  In a motorhome we have more control over the supply of gas. Before you move off, you must ensure your gas supply is switched off for your own safety.  Underslung tanks have a number of safety features which prevent gas from escaping if the tank is damaged but the bottles do not.  It is important you shut off the bottle when in transit.  You should also make sure the hand reel or connection is connected properly before use.  Open up the bottle and ensure you can’t hear anything escaping within the gas cupboard.  A CO2 monitor should also be on board your motorhome or campervan. Your motorhome will also have an on board water tank.  Its important to protect the motorhome from water damage but ensuring that your water tank is closed tightly and that you do not leave the water pump on when not using it. There should always be a fire extinguisher on board the motorhome.  Be careful when cooking with oil and remember not to put the glass lid of the hob back down until you have turned off the gas and waited for the hob to cool down to prevent it from breaking. Ensure all items that have a sharp edge are stored away and safe.  All internal drawers and doors should be shut before driving off. Road Safety Driving below 70 mph is a must when driving a motorhome or campervan.  These vehicles are not built for speed.  We suggest sitting at a calm 60 mph when driving on a motorway. When overtaking larger vehicles such as trucks, you will feel some pull back towards the larger vehicle, this feels like you are in their slip stream, take your time during these over takes. Driving the panel van campervans is very much like driving a Ford Transit for example.  Driving a motorhome is very different.  For inexperienced drivers we recommend hiring a panel van conversion first to get the idea of it or a sub 6 metre motorhome.  The larger motorhomes require a lot more attention when driving.  The are usually between 2.9 and 3.2 metres tall and around 3.2 metres wide.  It is important you take note of height restrictions when you are driving on the road.   Your motorhome could be up to 7.5 metres long, so it is important to remember that your turning circle has to be bigger than normal.  Take note that your back end will go out further than you are used to, therefore could hit something as you pull away.   When reversing it is recommended that you have someone behind you watching you.  If there is no one free, get out and look, take your time and move slowly. Stormy Weather Stormy weather can not only be bad for your holiday but can cause a number of problems on the road.  With you being bigger, you are a bigger target for the environment to take advantage of if its having one of those days. During high winds, we recommend finding a safe spot as quick as possible to wait for them to die down.  Try not to park in open land, by the sea, cliff edges. When touring areas different to your own, remember the weather can be different from what you are used to.  See if you can gauge the direction of the wind and park nose forward into it.  Do not park close to trees if possible. If the winds are high or stormy weather is expected before you start your trip, we would recommend delaying your trip or not heading to the area where high winds are expected. A good idea is to check your weather app before leaving, we suggest that any winds higher than 40mph, those areas should be avoided. If you are driving during high winds, be mindful that there could be debris falling or already in the roads.  Make sure you reduce your speed.  Controlling the motorhome is a lot easy at a slower speed.  Let others over take you, there is no rush.  Be particularly careful when you are crossing bridges.   Ideally you should avoid the smaller country lanes as debris can be everywhere and the lanes are usually covered in trees.  Open spaces such as national parks are not a good idea. We unfortunately had an incident in one of our motorhomes where a motorhome was blown over in high winds.  The story has been featured on The Guardian, BBC, The Times and The Scottish Sun

How much is it to hire a campervan

How much is it to hire a campervan? View Our Motorhomes How much, where to hire and what types of campervan Whether you’re looking for a quick weekend away or a longer break, we take a look at what it costs to hire a campervan in the UK Campervans, which are also known as Motorhomes if you are from the UK or RV’s if you are from the USA are becoming a more popular way to travel and holiday by UK holiday makers.  Finding your way to new parts of the UK or travelling to Europe has become more available due to the growth of Campervan Hire in the UK and its popularity.  Hiring a campervan means you don’t have to worry about luggage limits and you can take anything you wish with you to make your holiday much more comfortable. Campervans can come in various sizes.  From small Nissan vehicle conversions, to the well known VW conversion, to panel van conversions that have either been professionally converted by a reputable manufacturer or an amateur campervan builder wishing to put their own mark on their vehicle. Why hire a campervan? Campervans are ideal for those who love an adventure.  Being able to explore new places at your own pace is something that just can’t be beaten.  You can also save money by not staying in expensive hotels an flights. Factors that affect prices:- The biggest factor that affects pricing is the seasonal costs.  Usually its cheaper to hire a campervan or motorhome during the winter season.  The peak season tends to be the school holiday season or festival season such as Glastonbury or Latitude weekend. The type of campervan will also potentially change the price of the of the hire.  Some companies will base it on the size of the vehicle, some companies will base it on the vehicle itself for example, how basic or prestige it is. Finally and the most obvious will determine the price is the length of the hire you wish to take.  Most campervan hire companies have a minimum hire period.  Most reputable ones will have a 5 to 7 day minimum hire period. So how much is it to hire a campervan? Lets start with low season.  Low season is generally between the dates of Mid to late October right the way through to March.  This is the perfect time to get away at a real steal of a deal.  You receive the same service for a smaller price.  For the explorers, walking and hiking trips are great or why not stay warm and head to Spain or Portugal.  A weekend at this time of year will cost around £475 to £500 where as a week will be around £700 bearing in mind there are usually minimum hire periods. Mid season or ‘shoulder season’ is usually between April and June and then September to the mid to end of October.  This is where you will find the prices rise for around £600 for a weekend to between £960 to £1040 for a week. High season is deemed as Mid June to the end of August.  Here you will typically only have a 7 night minimum night option which will be around £1400 per week. Long Hire Discounts: Usually companies like Luna Motorhome Hire will offer long hire discounts.  a 2 week hire will be cheaper (per week) if you hire 2 weeks or longer. These prices are based on 2023/2024 rates. Where to go on your campervan hire holiday. There are many places you can travel to on your campervan hire holiday.  You can travel locally to get used to the idea of a campervan hire holiday or you can, tour the UK.  Go to places a plane could never take you or even drive to mountains and hike.  You could even explore Europe.  No matter where you go there will be an adventure waiting for you somewhere, where ever that may be. Use resources such as Search for Sites You can pay for a yearly subscription which is currently £5.99 but absolutely worth it to have sites, pub stops and free stops listed on an App which is available on for Apple and Android. Another website recommended is pitchup.com which is also Europe wide.

Amersfoort, a historic city, offers more than just Amsterdam’s canals, bikes and Van Gogh paintings in its museum.  Neither were we familiar with it – however, do not allow that to discourage you. Situated on the western side of Amsterdam, the city proudly showcases a historic old town centre adorned with buildings that date back to medieval times. Regarded as one of the city’s most stunning streets, Muurhuizen Street boasts a nearly circular layout that attracts tourists to leisurely wander through its charming shops and dine at the various restaurants scattered along its path. The Lieve Vrouwe tower remains as the sole remnant of the church that was mistakenly destroyed. At a height of 100m, the climb may seem small, but the stunning city views that await you at the top make it well worth it. The city of Amersfoort was bestowed with the honor by The Academy of Urbanism in London, who conducted an evaluation of its sustainability, urban planning, and management during their visit. Furthermore, the city was highly commended for fostering a high standard of living for its inhabitants and preserving its distinctive charm and historical significance.
