Auto-Trail Expedition 66 | Campervan Hire| Luna Motorhome Hire

Auto-Trail Expedition 66 Campervan Hire View Our Motorhomes Returning for 2025 the Auto-Trail Expedition 66. Dreaming of hiring or buying a campervan?  Well look no further.  Here at Luna Motorhome Hire we have a perfect little gem for you.  The Auto-Trail Expedition 66 is making its return to Luna Motorhome Hire for 2025.  By popular demand this vehicle has everything you need to enjoy a campervan hire road trip of a lifetime. Why have we chosen the Auto-Trail Expedtion 66 The Expedition comes in three models: the 66, featuring a two-berth, two-travel seat design, the Expedition 67, which offers a shorter rear lounge and a half-dinette with two extra travel seats and the Expedition 68 which has a large fixed rear bed over a large garage with an optional pop top roof. At Luna Motorhome Hire, we’re excited to offer the Expedition 66 with a manual gearbox. These layouts are reminiscent of the former Tribute Compact range, now rebranded as V-Line S, albeit with a more stripped-back spec. The Expedition 66 comes in white and Grey.  Although the grey is an added option, we have chosen to go with the Grey cab and alloy wheels to add some style to it. The Expeditions are built on the 5.99m Fiat Ducato with a 3,500kg form, offering over half a tonne of payload on both models. Standard features include cab air-conditioning, a passenger airbag, and cruise control.  We have also added Apple and Android Car play for your convenience. As a cost-effective model, the Expedition doesn’t feature a trendy overcab sunroof but does provide a practical overcab storage shelf. It retains the typical Ducato traits – smooth gear shifts, stable handling, and a somewhat plasticky cab interior. The ride is firm but surprisingly rattle-free, likely due to the minimalist interior. Despite its price, the Expedition includes height/tilt-adjustable cab seats, and notably, a 140bhp engine, rather than the entry-level 120bhp, ensuring spirited performance. The Expedition maintains the traditional rear lounge layout seen in the former Tribute 660 and current V-Line 610 SE. It boasts Grade III insulation, similar to other Auto-Trail campervans. The Expedition feels light and spacious, featuring pale woodwork akin to Chausson van conversions, a large rooflight over the rear seating, and automotive-style dark seat fabric with smart interior mouldings. The padded trim on the side walls and ceiling adds a touch of luxury. In winter, the 4.7kW gas/electric Whale heating should suffice. The end lounge is undoubtedly the highlight of the 66, featuring over 6ft long sofas. They’re a bit high for upright sitting unless you’re tall, but perfect for lounging. Reading lights, LED strips, and posh concertina-style blinds add to the appeal. The table, stored behind the driver’s seat, is well-sized for two, balancing space and functionality. A spacious lounge equals a large bed, nearly square at 1.85m. To convert the seating, pull the settee bases into the aisle and place backrest cushions in the middle. Simple crossbars replace built-in support legs. It’s a comfortable bed (or use the settees as singles). If you and your partner have different sleep schedules, the cab seats swivel, offering a secondary seating area when the rear is used as a bedroom. The passenger seat leaves you with dangling feet, and the driver’s seat rotates 90 degrees, but sitting with your feet up is quite relaxing, with the kitchen worktop flap nearby for convenience. The cab windows come with blinds for ease of use and for your convenience. Under the sofas, there’s ample storage, accessible from above or via the rear doors. The offside space houses the leisure battery and charger, but still has room for bedding, leaving the nearside space for outdoor gear. An oven might be unexpected in this budget spec, but it’s included, along with a combined grill and space for 2 x 3.7kg LPG Gas bottles. The kitchen features a two-burner hob with spark ignition, part of a Dometic unit with an integral sink. The galley includes a worktop extension, LED lighting, and a light on the back of the unit for outdoor evenings. There’s a cutlery drawer and decent cupboard space, though plumbing clutters the locker under the oven, and floor vents might draw in road dirt. Opposite, the galley is completed by an 85-litre Dometic fridge with a removable freezer section and push-button ignition for gas mode. Above, double doors reveal a small wardrobe suitable for shirts but not longer garments. Additional storage is found on the overcab shelf, in a slim drawer under the fridge, and top lockers above the galley and lounge. If you are looking to buy an Auto-Trail Expedition 66, then why not try one out first.  Book your campervan hire today with Luna Motorhome Hire.

As you explore the UK’s stunning landscapes, you’ll find an abundance of delicious food options that can make your journey even more memorable. Here’s how to make the most of your meals on the road, with a focus on local produce, seasonal freshness, and dining out. Embrace Local Flavors One of the joys of traveling by campervan is the opportunity to sample local delicacies from the regions you visit. The UK is a treasure trove of locally produced foods, each area offering its unique flavours and specialties. From the creamy cheeses of the West Country to the fresh seafood of the Scottish coast, there’s something to tantalize every palate. Visiting local farmers’ markets is a fantastic way to discover these regional delights. As you meander through the stalls, you’ll find everything from artisanal breads and handcrafted cheeses to fresh fruits and vegetables. Not only does this support local farmers and producers, but it also ensures that you’re getting the freshest ingredients for your meals on the go. Celebrate Seasonal Freshness Cooking with seasonal ingredients is not only a treat for your taste buds but also a more sustainable way to enjoy food. As you travel, take note of what’s in season and incorporate these ingredients into your meals. The UK boasts a diverse array of dining options, from charming country pubs to Michelin-starred restaurants. Each offers a unique experience and a chance to try regional specialties prepared by skilled chefs. When planning your route, consider stopping at some of the UK’s renowned food destinations. Perhaps indulge in a traditional Cornish pasty in Cornwall or savour haggis in a cosy Scottish inn. For a truly memorable experience, treat yourself to a meal at a restaurant that champions local and seasonal produce.  Don’t forget, you can stop at pubs whilst on your journey.  There are many that will let you stay overnight if you eat at their pub.  Be sure to book in advance.  Most of these pubs can be found online on searchforsites.co.uk. Tips for Culinary Adventures on the Road Plan Ahead: Before setting off, research local markets, farm shops, and eateries along your route. This will help you make the most of your culinary journey. Stock Up: Keep your campervan cupboards well-stocked with essentials like olive oil, herbs, and spices. This way, you can easily prepare meals with the fresh ingredients you find. Be Adventurous: Don’t be afraid to try new foods or recipes. The joy of travel lies in discovery, and that includes discovering new flavours and dishes. Enjoy the Experience: Whether you’re cooking in your campervan or dining out, take the time to savour each meal. Enjoy the process of cooking, the flavours of the food, and the company of those you’re traveling with. Motorhome Safety

Motorhome Safety View Our Motorhomes Our top tips for motorhome, road and weather safety As an experienced motorhomer myself and the owner of Luna Motorhome Hire, I thought we should take advantage of recommending a number of tips and tricks to avoid any problems or injury when enjoying your motorhome or campervan hire break. Vehicle Safety Basic vehicle safety is a must when driving a vehicle as large as a motorhome.  Of course you should check tyre pressures, tyre wear, ensure you have enough fuel for your journey, especially if you are visiting areas where fuel stations may be scarce.  Check all your fluids before going on a long journey, washer fluid, power steering and coolant. Before setting off, it is important to make sure all of your locker doors, garage doors, windows and skylights.  When driving along these parts have a habit of flying away if not closed properly. Habitation Safety Motorhomes and campervans have what we call the ‘habitation area’.  Generally the area you live, cook, shower and so on.   Being aware of the basics can help you have a wonderful break without any problems.  It is essential you are make aware of gas safety.  In your home, your gas supply is never really seen until you push a button on your boiler or start cooking on your gas hob.  In a motorhome we have more control over the supply of gas. Before you move off, you must ensure your gas supply is switched off for your own safety.  Underslung tanks have a number of safety features which prevent gas from escaping if the tank is damaged but the bottles do not.  It is important you shut off the bottle when in transit.  You should also make sure the hand reel or connection is connected properly before use.  Open up the bottle and ensure you can’t hear anything escaping within the gas cupboard.  A CO2 monitor should also be on board your motorhome or campervan. Your motorhome will also have an on board water tank.  Its important to protect the motorhome from water damage but ensuring that your water tank is closed tightly and that you do not leave the water pump on when not using it. There should always be a fire extinguisher on board the motorhome.  Be careful when cooking with oil and remember not to put the glass lid of the hob back down until you have turned off the gas and waited for the hob to cool down to prevent it from breaking. Ensure all items that have a sharp edge are stored away and safe.  All internal drawers and doors should be shut before driving off. Road Safety Driving below 70 mph is a must when driving a motorhome or campervan.  These vehicles are not built for speed.  We suggest sitting at a calm 60 mph when driving on a motorway. When overtaking larger vehicles such as trucks, you will feel some pull back towards the larger vehicle, this feels like you are in their slip stream, take your time during these over takes. Driving the panel van campervans is very much like driving a Ford Transit for example.  Driving a motorhome is very different.  For inexperienced drivers we recommend hiring a panel van conversion first to get the idea of it or a sub 6 metre motorhome.  The larger motorhomes require a lot more attention when driving.  The are usually between 2.9 and 3.2 metres tall and around 3.2 metres wide.  It is important you take note of height restrictions when you are driving on the road.   Your motorhome could be up to 7.5 metres long, so it is important to remember that your turning circle has to be bigger than normal.  Take note that your back end will go out further than you are used to, therefore could hit something as you pull away.   When reversing it is recommended that you have someone behind you watching you.  If there is no one free, get out and look, take your time and move slowly. Stormy Weather Stormy weather can not only be bad for your holiday but can cause a number of problems on the road.  With you being bigger, you are a bigger target for the environment to take advantage of if its having one of those days. During high winds, we recommend finding a safe spot as quick as possible to wait for them to die down.  Try not to park in open land, by the sea, cliff edges. When touring areas different to your own, remember the weather can be different from what you are used to.  See if you can gauge the direction of the wind and park nose forward into it.  Do not park close to trees if possible. If the winds are high or stormy weather is expected before you start your trip, we would recommend delaying your trip or not heading to the area where high winds are expected. A good idea is to check your weather app before leaving, we suggest that any winds higher than 40mph, those areas should be avoided. If you are driving during high winds, be mindful that there could be debris falling or already in the roads.  Make sure you reduce your speed.  Controlling the motorhome is a lot easy at a slower speed.  Let others over take you, there is no rush.  Be particularly careful when you are crossing bridges.   Ideally you should avoid the smaller country lanes as debris can be everywhere and the lanes are usually covered in trees.  Open spaces such as national parks are not a good idea. We unfortunately had an incident in one of our motorhomes where a motorhome was blown over in high winds.  The story has been featured on The Guardian, BBC, The Times and The Scottish Sun

How much is it to hire a campervan

How much is it to hire a campervan? View Our Motorhomes How much, where to hire and what types of campervan Whether you’re looking for a quick weekend away or a longer break, we take a look at what it costs to hire a campervan in the UK Campervans, which are also known as Motorhomes if you are from the UK or RV’s if you are from the USA are becoming a more popular way to travel and holiday by UK holiday makers.  Finding your way to new parts of the UK or travelling to Europe has become more available due to the growth of Campervan Hire in the UK and its popularity.  Hiring a campervan means you don’t have to worry about luggage limits and you can take anything you wish with you to make your holiday much more comfortable. Campervans can come in various sizes.  From small Nissan vehicle conversions, to the well known VW conversion, to panel van conversions that have either been professionally converted by a reputable manufacturer or an amateur campervan builder wishing to put their own mark on their vehicle. Why hire a campervan? Campervans are ideal for those who love an adventure.  Being able to explore new places at your own pace is something that just can’t be beaten.  You can also save money by not staying in expensive hotels an flights. Factors that affect prices:- The biggest factor that affects pricing is the seasonal costs.  Usually its cheaper to hire a campervan or motorhome during the winter season.  The peak season tends to be the school holiday season or festival season such as Glastonbury or Latitude weekend. The type of campervan will also potentially change the price of the of the hire.  Some companies will base it on the size of the vehicle, some companies will base it on the vehicle itself for example, how basic or prestige it is. Finally and the most obvious will determine the price is the length of the hire you wish to take.  Most campervan hire companies have a minimum hire period.  Most reputable ones will have a 5 to 7 day minimum hire period. So how much is it to hire a campervan? Lets start with low season.  Low season is generally between the dates of Mid to late October right the way through to March.  This is the perfect time to get away at a real steal of a deal.  You receive the same service for a smaller price.  For the explorers, walking and hiking trips are great or why not stay warm and head to Spain or Portugal.  A weekend at this time of year will cost around £475 to £500 where as a week will be around £700 bearing in mind there are usually minimum hire periods. Mid season or ‘shoulder season’ is usually between April and June and then September to the mid to end of October.  This is where you will find the prices rise for around £600 for a weekend to between £960 to £1040 for a week. High season is deemed as Mid June to the end of August.  Here you will typically only have a 7 night minimum night option which will be around £1400 per week. Long Hire Discounts: Usually companies like Luna Motorhome Hire will offer long hire discounts.  a 2 week hire will be cheaper (per week) if you hire 2 weeks or longer. These prices are based on 2023/2024 rates. Where to go on your campervan hire holiday. There are many places you can travel to on your campervan hire holiday.  You can travel locally to get used to the idea of a campervan hire holiday or you can, tour the UK.  Go to places a plane could never take you or even drive to mountains and hike.  You could even explore Europe.  No matter where you go there will be an adventure waiting for you somewhere, where ever that may be. Use resources such as Search for Sites You can pay for a yearly subscription which is currently £5.99 but absolutely worth it to have sites, pub stops and free stops listed on an App which is available on for Apple and Android. Another website recommended is pitchup.com which is also Europe wide.

A Campervan Hire trip to Dorset

Campervan hire – Tour Dorset View Our Motorhomes A Dorset tour Start your journey from Luna Motorhome Hire and head towards Weymouth, then simply trace a path from Weymouth to Poole, keeping in mind the unpredictable terrain, in about an hour’s time, you will pass through the stunning county of Dorset as you begin your campervan hire holiday. It may not be immediately apparent, but in addition to breathtaking landscapes, you are also immersed in a rich history. From the legendary TE Lawrence (also known as Lawrence of Arabia) to the renowned Robert Baden-Powell (founder of the Scouting movement), and from the famed Tolpuddle Martyrs (perhaps familiar from school history lessons) to Vice-Admiral Sir Thomas Hardy (a comrade of Nelson’s at the Battle of Trafalgar), there is much to discover.  There is a ghost village that was taken over by the army during World War II and later abandoned. You can also find a naked giant on a hillside, a few small breweries, numerous walking paths, and one of the most famous limestone rock formations in the country. It’s safe to say that you are indeed traversing through a unique and exceptional region. It’s likely that during your journey, you’ll come across the quaint village of Wool, it was where we chose to spend a long weekend  at Whitemead Caravan Park. Whitemead Caravan Park is a lovely destination for those seeking a relaxing holiday in nature. The address for Whitemead Caravan Park is located on East Burton Road in Wool, Dorset with the postal code BH20 6HG. To learn more about the park, visit their website at whitemeadcaravanpark.co.uk Cosy spot to set up camp Whitemead is a welcoming motorhome site set against beautiful countryside, conveniently located near two pubs and a train station. Not to mention, popular destinations like Monkey World and The Tank Museum are only a short stroll away, making it an ideal location for visitors.  Initially, while its convenient location is notable, Wool village may not appear particularly attractive. However, it has proven to be one of the most hospitable places my partner and I have visited. The welcoming pubs are all within a short five-minute walk, with the exception of one which is a pleasant 20-minute stroll away. Where to go After considering our options, we decided on Poole, a coastal town located at the end of our winding route and only a 40-minute train ride from Wool. While it would have been faster to drive, we opted to take advantage of the nearby train station and leave our vehicle parked while someone else handled the transportation. Poole boasts the largest natural harbor in Europe, which serves as both a vital nature conservation area and designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and Marine Conservation Area. For those seeking further encounters with wildlife, there is also a thriving wetland inhabited by countless species of birds. And in addition to this abundant natural landscape, visitors can partake in various watersports such as wakeboarding, water-skiing, and enjoy the impressive marina. At this location, both independent boat rentals and organized guided cruises are offered. These cruises will transport you to various locations such as Brownsea Island, a National Trust nature conservation spot, or Old Harry Rocks near Studland’s shoreline. For those who prefer to stay on land, the Quay offers plenty of opportunities for crabbing or leisurely dining at one of the charming restaurants, cafes, or pubs with stunning waterfront views. As expected, we partook in this activity before boarding our train and avoiding any need for driving today. For food we were recommended a great spot for lunch and decided to head to The King Charles, known as one of the oldest inns in town. Other local options We resumed our walk along the waterfront and stumbled upon a life-sized sculpture of Robert Baden-Powell.  Considered by many to be the beginning of the global Scouting movement, this camp was originally designed as a test in utilizing Baden-Powell’s military background for recreational ventures. Inland from the waterfront, Poole’s historic district is a must-see, particularly for those who share my love of perusing unique stores and delving into the town’s past. Admission to Poole Museum is complimentary, offering a diverse collection encompassing everything from seafaring outlaws to renowned local ceramics, as well as displays showcasing archaeology and fine art. At the museum, visitors can also visit the Tourist Information Centre. Grab a copy of the Cockle Trail leaflet, which takes you on a journey around town to discover its intriguing past by following the brass ‘cockles’ on the ground. It’s definitely a unique and enjoyable way to explore Poole beyond the usual sights. The next day, we boarded the train and head to Wareham.  Wareham is a charming market town situated between Rivers Frome and Piddle and the coast. The local museum offers a fascinating exhibit on TE Lawrence, who served at the nearby Bovington Camp upon joining the Tank Corps. He later transitioned to the RAF before embarking on his travels abroad. For a period, he resided nearby at Clouds Hill until his untimely passing in a motorcycle accident in 1935. Be sure to check out the town walls, as they were constructed by King Alfred as a defensive measure against Viking attacks. These walls are now an ancient monument, although they may not look like traditional stone walls anymore – instead, they have transformed into grassy mounds. Take a stroll along the trail surrounding the walls and take in the breathtaking views from the top. Before you head over to the Quay. Among the many enjoyable strolls in Wareham were those that meandered along the river and through the woods. It was a peaceful and easy hike, with no shortage of picturesque views. Our last morning Before heading home, we decided to visit Durdle Door.  Having checked online, there is a car park very close to water edge where motorhomes and campervans can park for £15.  As you can stay here all day, we decided to get there for
